Oral Sedation
With the advent of many new medications, the anxious patient can oftentimes be managed by merely taking a sedative medication in advance of the dental appointment. These medications relieve fear and anxiety and allow the time to pass very quickly. Most of the time, the patient will have very little recollection of the entire dental visit. If electing this course, it is essential that the patient have someone to drive them to and from the appointment. Also, while all post-operative instructions are given in writing, it is helpful if the driver is someone who the patient feels comfortable with receiving instructions orally as well as it is most likely that the patient will have little memory of these oral instructions.
